Paper heart garland tree bombing

Inspired by the amazing yarn bombing that has popped all over the world and by Rachelle’s (Tinker Lab) Paper Bags Creative Challenge, our little family decided to repurpose some old paper bags and surprise our neighbors at the same time: by wrapping paper heart garlands around trees in our neighborhood :)
We started with this:
We cut opened the bags to turn them into canvases, and then Daddy and Sophie went all crazy with the paints.
Then we cut the bags in strips, and folded them into fans to make heart chains.
We then made holes in each end of the garland and tied some yarn.
And finally, we went on our paper heart garland tree bombing adventure!
We cannot wait to see what our neighbors say, but we think they will heart them :)

Edit: All of the neighbors LOVED their surprise heart attacks, and were quite puzzled as to who had been the lovely bandit that did it! :)

  1. Gaby! You are speaking my language!! I love guerilla art in all its forms and have been dreaming up all sorts of ways to inject our neighborhood with artsy surprises. This is wonderful and I'm so inspired. Here's a link to your pin in the creative challenge:

  2. Love this idea and your neighbourhood and family look gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

  3. @ Rachelle and Emma: Thanks for your nice comments; I am hoping this will become a new movement! :)

  4. Just came across this idea! Love it! I am always looking for ways for art and service to intersect. Thanks!

    1. Hope you get to do some heart tree bombing too, then! Let em know :)

  5. It looks like you had a really fun activity to boost your waking hours with. That can be a great and awesome excuse to savor your surroundings with, such as those trees. Those trees may just linger and stand there, but they do add a lot to the suburban experience. Gives you enough more areas and corners to keep yourselves active and vital. Good day!
